QUESTIONS

HOW WAS THE COURSE CREATED?

This course was created at the request of Cyndi O’Meara’s community, after years of reviewing other nutrition courses available. With the expertise of Dr Stephen Myers, the Functional Nutrition Course is based on Cyndi’s vitalistic philosophy.

SHOULD I START WITH THE INTRODUCTION TO NUTRITION COURSE?

The Introduction to Nutrition Course is our introductory, Information only course. It is a great starting course especially if you are new to nutrition and our philosophy.  It does not contain any assessments.  It consists of a selection of different learning formats from podcasts, to reports to videos etc.  The Introduction course sets the foundation of learning about our philosophy, so you can move into our more advanced course Fundamentals of Nutrition if you wish

DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE INTRODUCTION TO NUTRITION COURSE TO ENROL INTO YOUR OTHER PACKAGES?

No, unless you think your knowledge of Nutrition is at starter level, then I would suggest completing this course first.  The Introduction to Nutrition course is based on our course creators Cyndi O’Meara’s book Changing Habits Changing Lives, if you are not familiar with this book or the philosophy, then we would suggest maybe starting at this level or familiarising yourself with the content of Changing Habits Changing Lives book.

DO YOU NEED ANY PREVIOUS NUTRITION EXPERIENCE TO DO THE COURSE? OR IS THIS COURSE TAILORED FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS?

No previous nutrition experience is required, we will give you all of the tools to get you started. Having said that though, the course is also tailored for health professionals, and we have an interesting mix of students with different backgrounds. We have provided challenging readings in each module for health professionals, and we have received excellent feedback from those within the course.

HOW DO YOUR NUTRITION COURSES DIFFER FROM OTHERS?

In our course we teach our learners to become critical thinkers and how to research as there is so much conflicting information out there, we want our learners to find the credible information and have knowledge on how to find and provide evidence if required.  The information you learn in our course is not found in any other main stream nutrition course on the market.  Our course is based on a holistic approach and is based on the philosophy of Cultural Anthropology and a vitalistic approach to nutrition through systems where we look at the body as whole. We look at the entire system and not just the collection of their parts but how they work together in harmony to achieve a specific outcome or function.

DO I RECEIVE HARD COPIES OF THE COURSE MATERIAL?

No, you will be given a secure login to access the E-Learning Platform, which will give you access into your enrolled courses, and any future courses you choose to undertake. The course is entirely conducted online, which means you need a computer/laptop or tablet/smart phone with internet access.  You have the option to save or print off any information you require.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED IN THIS COURSE?

Learning is an individual pursuit. Moreover, the way an individual learns can vary widely. Accordingly, there is no formal assessment in this course. This is because many of the assessments are designed to make you critically think about some specific topic area or to take action on a specific topic. . The assessment varies from multiple choice, short response to essay questions, and following the submission of your assessment our qualified assessors give constructive feedback to further your learning. This form of feedback is important in order to help you think more critically about your work, and at the same time, helping you to engage and enhance your learning capacity.

IS SUPPORT PROVIDED?

Of course! You have administrative support at the Functional Nutrition Academy team during business hours (AEST) 9am-3pm.

We provide monthly webinars with either Cyndi O’Meara or another expert in the field. These are mostly live webinars so you can type your questions and have them answered by the speaker on the night.

Within the E-Learning platform we have a forum where we encourage students to post course related questions to start discussions with other students. From time to time, coordinators and students may post a series of questions to allow the group to interact and think beyond the course material. Students also have the option to start a discussion introducing themselves to their peers.

We also have a private Facebook group for students, which we have found is a great support for students. Here, students can post non-course related questions, and also start networking with students within their local communities.

No, we do not provide access to the modules separately as the information is interlinked. You need to study the whole course to get a thorough understanding of the course content.  You also need to complete Fundamentals of Functional Nutrition course before you can enrol into the Applied Functional Nutrition Course.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE EACH COURSE?

You get 12 months to complete Fundamentals of Functional Nutrition, 12 months to complete Applied Functional Nutrition.  The Fundamentals and Applied Functional Nutrition Courses can be completed in 6 months, but we understand life can get busy, so we give you the extra 6 months to allow for this.

CAN I ATTEND THE WEEKEND WITH CYNDI IF I AM NOT GRADUATING?

Yes you certainly can! We have found that most of the students that have attended the Weekend with Cyndi haven’t completed the full 12 modules. This was very beneficial to their learning and inspired them to get back in to their study, so certainly come along if you can! However, if you would prefer to continue with the course that is okay too, and you can come along the following year once you have completed.

WILL THERE BE ONGOING ASSISTANCE POST COURSE? A WEBPAGE THAT LISTS THE MENTORS?

Yes, we will be providing a support network for the Functional Nutrition graduates.

You can find a list of the graduated Functional Nutrition Consultants who have listed businesses here.

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I ALLOW EACH WEEK TO COMPLETE THE FUNDAMENTALS OF FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION COURSE?

We say it approximately takes 4-6 hours per lesson and there are 4 lessons per module so if you can dedicate 4-6 hours per week and complete 1 lesson weekly it would take you 6 months to complete the first 6 modules  if you want to complete it over the 12 months, we suggest dedicating 2-4 hours per week: however you can spend a lot more time if you are interested in a topic, as there are additional suggested readings for each module.  We also understand that everyone learns at different paces, so these are approximate guidelines only.

DO WE NEED TO ATTEND CLASSROOM SESSIONS? AND WHAT SORT OF LEARNING MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED?

Our courses are offered wholly online. There are no classroom sessions to attend.  We do however run monthly Live webinars, these are recorded if you cannot attend live.  The course content includes lesson notes, videos, audios and activities to apply the learning and develop your critical thinking.  All required learning content to complete your assessments are included, however at the end of each module we include a suggested readings section which may contain books we recommend for continual learning, these are optional and are not included in your course fees.

I AM NOT IN AUSTRALIA, CAN I STILL STUDY YOUR COURSES?

Yes, as our courses are all online, our course content can be accessed anywhere in the world as long as you have a good internet connection and access to a computer.
